Who can attend Seeds of Hope?

Seeds of Hope is open to young women currently in high school (grades 9–12). Participants come from across the United States, Canada and Mexico and represent diverse backgrounds and faith experiences.

Do you have to be Catholic to attend?

No. Seeds of Hope is rooted in the Catholic faith and sponsored by the Felician Sisters, but young women of all faith backgrounds are welcome. Participants are invited to join in prayer and liturgies while being fully respected in their own beliefs.

What does a typical day look like?

Each day includes leadership workshops, prayer experiences, small group discussions, recreation and community time, shared meals, outdoor activities and a dedicated service day in the local community. View last year's schedule.

What kind of supervision is provided?

Participants are always supervised by screened and trained adult staff, mentors and Felician Sisters. Small group leaders stay closely connected with participants throughout the program to ensure safety, support and a positive experience.

Where do participants stay?

Participants stay at Maryville Retreat Center in Holly, Michigan. Lodging is dorm-style, with adult supervision in each housing area. The campus is safe, peaceful and designed for retreats and youth programs. Visit Maryville's website to learn more.

What should participants bring?

A packing list will be provided after acceptance. In general, participants should bring comfortable clothing, modest attire for liturgies, closed-toe shoes for service work, personal toiletries and any necessary medications.

Is there a lot of physical activity?

There are opportunities for outdoor recreation such as walking trails and team-building activities, all adaptable to varying ability levels. Service projects may involve light physical activity such as gardening or organizing supplies.

Can dietary needs or allergies be accommodated?

Yes. Maryville Retreat Center works to accommodate common dietary needs and food allergies. Families will be asked to share this information in advance.

How are roommates assigned?

Participants are grouped by age and grade level. Room assignments encourage new friendships while ensuring a supportive and comfortable environment. Participants can also request a roommate on their paperwork once admitted to the program.

Will participants be able to use their phones?

Participants may keep their phones with them. To foster presence and community, we ask that phone use be limited to free time and recreation. Specific guidelines are shared before the program begins. In addition, parents/guardians will always have a way to reach program staff if needed.

What is the cost and is financial assistance available?

The cost is $300 per participant made possible through the generous support of our sponsors and the Felician Sisters. Financial assistance is available for both program fees and travel expenses.

What makes Seeds of Hope different from other leadership programs?

Seeds of Hope uniquely integrates faith, service and leadership in a supportive, values-based environment. Participants grow not only in leadership skills, but also in confidence, faith and lifelong friendships.

Can participants return in future years?

Yes! Previous participants can apply each year and will be accepted based on available space. In addition partcipants can be recommended for leadership roles such as peer mentors and assistants, helping guide and support new participants.
